Our chosen Orphanage is run by volunteers who ask only that you bring some gift for the children. Your gift can be as small or large as you like - everything is welcomed with open arms. For example food, toys, books, clothes - either unwanted or new. Everything will be gratefully received.
Now, if you would like to get “down and dirty”, there’s the opportunity to do so. A couple of examples embraced by others have been; helping the children clean their living areas and painting of playground equipment. Of course, ensure appropriate clothing is worn..!!
Please advise at time of booking if the “down and dirty” option is required as this will influence our pick-up time and slightly reduce the time spent in the market.
From here you will be transferred to the Maasai Village Open Market where you have the opportunity to purchase wooden sculptures, beaded necklaces, batik wall hangings, shoes, soap stone carvings, sisal bags, kikois, textiles and a whole host of other exciting goods.
The nice thing about buying items from these markets is that sometimes (but not always) you are dealing with the actual people who craft the items. You can see ladies threading beads and making jewellery right in front of you, and if you talk to the traders it's easy to find people who are selling their own sculptures or craft items. Haggling is expected and if you like this you're in for a treat! The Maasai Market rule is generally to offer between half and two thirds of the initial price and carry on from there....!
Departure times are at your convenience however, we would recommend 8am as we are offering a 15% discount on our world famous Carnivores Restaurant “all you can eat” meal when combined with this Safari.
The price for the Children’s Orphanage and Maasai Market trip includes return transfers from your hotel to the orphanage & market with driver/guide. Please remember to allow for the gift you choose to bring in addition.
